L3,
While there is a lot of competition to be concerned about in the STB market, integrated glass/STB products are forecast to capture a maximum of 5-7% of the total market in the long run (according to Forrester). The reason is that STB technologies are evolving quickly and cost much less as separate products than as integrated TVs. At the same time, the actual TV is usually the most expensive single component in a consumer entertainment center, especially as we move to digital formats. As a result, consumers are expected to either use their existing sets or purchase sets that can be used with separate STBs, PVRs, and new interactive TV technologies as they evolve. Generally, the model will likely be one of STB and separate monitor. I think that's a reasonable expectation, at least until ITV, PVR, and STB technologies mature.
