So they manage the entire inventory of products they offer?
That would seem like a monumental task. Why would they not
just latch onto the coattails of an established nationwide
distributor, manage the storefront, forward orders to
the distributor and let them manage the logistics?

Electronics/home office e-tailers like buy.com and onvia.com
don't manage their own inventory, thus reducing the complexity
of the operation and side-stepping product obsolescence, rebates,
and manufacturer returns.

The cost of duplicating all the infrastructure and the
utilizing "guess work" in managing inventory seems to be
a recipe for disaster.
