Well if so then once these devices come out and presumably they are out now in Korea except there appears to be a blanket security blackout concerning anything to do with 1X in Korea.

Don't worry 1xrtt IS available in Korea right now...

Unfortunately, I dont think that the roll-out has been wide-spread because SK Telecom has lost subscribers in each of the last two months. In fact, the SK Telecom roll-out look remarkably similair to the way most people anticipate the May roll-out of W-CDMA. Let's run through the list...

1) Limited handset availability....There is precisely one 1x enabled handset currently available from the SK Telecom website.

011shop.com

Samsung has announced a second one...but I havent seen any evidence of it on sale yet.

2) Limited geographic roll-out....Like the planned W-CDMA roll-out, SK Telecom's roll-out has been limited to the areas near Seoul.

3) Lack of standardized equipment....If you look at the PR related to the MSM5000 and the MSM5105, you will note a distinct difference in the wording. The MSM5000 does not state that it is compliant with IS2000 (as the MSM5105 does).

Earlier there were reports that KT Freetel and LG would be introducing 1x during December. However, I havent seen anything that indicates that they have followed through with this. It seems like they may be waiting for an increased variety of handsets prior to launch....
