The cousin that called me wasn't the cousin that started the "shun" program. He and I grew up together, hunted and fished together and the fact he was in town and used his cell phone says a lot when he could have used a real phone free. I think he just wanted to touch base. He was upset and wanted to hear a friendly voice.

I was glad he called so I could explain I'd give a donation to the church's fund for a new building in his mother's name instead of flowers with my name on them.

I did some thinking today. Why do we have grief when someone who is suffering dies? Especially someone who is very religious? It's the miracle factor. That being that ma is 90, bad health, hurting and wanting to die, once she dies the chance for a miracle that a pill or God's blessing or whatever will make her 35 again. Games over. We always look for that miracle.
