Naviscope notes: I am finding there is an optimum setting for maximum prefecth depth (5), maximum number of prefetched threads (7), and maximum number of prefetched pages (10). It is possible to raise these values but doing this causes Naviscope to operate almost comstantly prefetching so much data and then it seems to have a harder time accessing the pages you want as you surf.

Even with optimum settings there are lots of times it does not have the page you want prefetched. This is inherent in the software.

One most interesting factor that I have noticed but not yet figured out is that although I might surf through hundreds of pages with Naviscope turned on, the system and GDI available resources shown on my Resource meter change little if at all! The is a huge change from previously and indicates that Naviscope is intercepting and somehow storing every page I seek without using computer memory cache. My guess is it is putting these pages in a file of its own on the hard drive. Whatever, it appears that using Naviscope eliminates or greatly reduces the most annoying feature of W98, namely these pesky memory limitations.

Whether this is right or not, I have had a most amusing time playing with Naviscope. When the prefetch feature works it is great. N has also blocked over 1000 ads so far in three or four days of surfing.

Thanks Frank for this cool software referral!

best
