jim, i, too, have a real antipathy to being preached at and give no credence to christian ideas/myths, etc - or any others. but you gotta ease up. you put douglas on ignore and it's a pyrrhic(sp?) victory. we are here as a community, or we are here to no point; communities require tolerance at their base. as for grandstanding, i don't buy it. i think douglas is quite sincere, and who knows, he could be one of those altogether-rare christians who actually is an honest and open-minded sort. the other point is that this isn't something that goes on all the time: it's christmas. let them celebrate and take it easy. you approach being a bigot. take care, don.

jim black: Easy now. Normally I, too, am very touchy about anyone trying to foist their faith on me. In Doug's case, I sense that his faith is sincere and that he is merely expressing good wishes to you me and all in terms of his faith. To me that is fine. I'll take good wishes and blessings from all givers ... especially at this time of year when I am feeling in a warm holiday mood and inclined to reciprocate in my way. As for the Doug's comments about Indonesia: it never ceases to amaze me what is done to people in the name of religions gone amuck. Apartheid! Bosnia! Jerusalem! Kashmir! Lebanon! Turkey! ..... and quite a few places in our own country from time to time. These are sad events and I do grieve to see them, whatever gods may be motivating the participants. To point them out as Doug has, is only decent.
