I don't buy the cheaper handset theory either. There will be a big enough market in the U.S. to see to that. Even if the handsets did cost more Verizon and Sprint would subsidize the difference. They would more then be able to make up for the subsidization from the money saved in their less costly buildout.

I have no idea how WCDMA could possibly be less expensive to buildout with higher royalties and a higher number of basestations required, unless this is not true. Again this is what we're being led to believe but is it actually true?
I for one will be questioning everything going forward now that WCDMA no longer appears to be the 98LB weakling anymore.
