re:Although the Celeron was sold at a lower cost than the Pentium III, it represented a higher margin of profit because Intel had already written the chips off.

hmmmmm........

recepie for intel's success:

1)build more expensive pIIIs
2)write those chips off as one time loss
3)sell those chips as celerons assuming no cost of production
4)profits from celeron are recurring, of course

<ggg>

OT Hi John and Thread,

Hope you all had (or, are still having) a good holiday vacation. Mine was a lot of fun (we celebrated Christmas Eve at a friend's house), but the holiday was a tad short (I had taken some time off back in Nov, so it was my turn to work around a holiday, so another manager could finally get some time off).

We cooked & had "traditional" dishes and snacks, which even included herring on crackers. The dinner was filled with a lot of jokes. On Christmas Day we went on a nice hike.

Hope everyone had a good holiday!

Amy J
