Thanks for the informative response. I'm glad that the issue doesn't apply to me personally, as it sounds like it can be a headache just to try to figure out where you stand, much less what actually to do. Gotta keep those CPAs busy with something, I guess. Sounds, however, that it would be unlikely to have more than a marginal effect, albeit unambiguously negative, on trading on the Nasdaq for the remainder of the year - even less if it's the settlement date and not the trade date that counts for '00 tax purposes in the matter.
