Yes....the real headway that can be made in the black community is to stop relying on perpetual victim status and start to swing over into the positive aspects of being a citizen in this wonderful country. Changing the tone of the leadership would be a vast improvement with longer term positive implications.

Then why did 9 African-Americans vote for Gore for every one that voted for Bush? Why did the black community embrace Gore more so than it did Clinton in either '92 or '96?

If, in your opinion, Jesse Jackson is not a legitimate mouthpiece for the 30 million-plus African-Americans in this country, then who is? Name names. Perhaps a good start would be the Black Congressional Caucus. I believe there are approximately 37 African-Americans in the U.S. House, and all but one (J.C. Watts) is a Democrat.
