This is something I'm confused about. Sometimes you see stocks which move above the MA, then reverse near that MA, then retrace back to the other band, and repeat the process.

A continued move up is normally made after open and close above the Bollinger MA is made. The MA seems to become a medium term point of support or resistance depending which side of that line a stock is trading on.

The observation that you just made is what caused me to want to learn candlestick charting. <g> The sticks are a great complement to reading the bands. They are a helpful method of confirming not only bollinger band TA but other indicators as well, although I’m sure that I don’t need to tell you that.
