Yo Voop,

"The scorecard today for carriers (who obtained IMT-2000 spectrum as a result of auction) selecting cdma2000 as opposed to UMTS"

<< Now where in there is you can't count them with narrowband if they have contract with Batwing for 1XRTT = CDMA2000? >>

Contract is for 2nd generation upgrade of current system to 1xRTT in 800 MHz spectrum.

The distinction between 2G & 3G is nowhere more apparent than in Japan where data transmission rates are capped at 128 kbps in all 3 current chunks of assigned spectrum (800 MHz, 1500 MHz, 1700 MHz).

When they contract for narrowband CDMA in 2GHz IMT-2000 spectrum, I'll add em to the scorecard.

Heck. Its the holidays. I'm full of cheer. Since KDDI has already announced cdma2000 as their technology choice for new as well as existing spectrum, and have announced plans to launch their 3G network fall of 2002, I'll give em half a point even though they have not selected vendor.

Score: UMTS 23 to cdma2000 ½ <g>

Hopefully before next year is out we can add Verizon, Sprint PCS and a few others to the cdma2000 scorecard.
