Purely anecdotal evidence -- but I just got off a conference call with family and friends who are about as Joe average as you can get. They are all selling tech stocks today to lock in tax losses and nibbling on tech stocks at the same time that they feel are bargains. They are all sick of their mutual funds and want to sell their long term holdings in January to put off recognizing the gains till next year -- FWIW that is the reading I picked up today from mainstreet USA.
