WS

"... can first consider what's best for others ...)

Like 1950's SecDef Charllie Wilson said, "What's good enough for General Motors is good enough for the United States."

"... prime directive of the constitution alot: "To provide for the common welfare...."

Small nitpickey correction (according to my copy of the Constitution): "... PROVIDE for the common defence, PROMOTE the general Welfare ..."
Sure has been a lot of promoting of welfare in the last 35 years. <gggggggg>

ws, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" also sums it up nicely. unfortunately, this doesn't always happen. i believe that the pursuit of self interest will eventually catch up and spank humanity in a big bad way once again.

re: justification - it is a terrible thing. some germans justified their mass slaughter of the jews by claiming that they were merely killing an unwanted intruder who broke into their "house." after all, who wouldn't protect their family from an intruder in their own "home?"

it is scary to think that we are all such a weak argument away from someone trying to exterminate us.
