Hi Peter, I hope you're right, but I sure get the impression (from Howard's presentation at: ieee802.org )
that he has already made up his mind that the Ethernet Last Mile (ELM) will be copper-based. He didn't seem to be hedging like some of the other presentors.

Page 6 indicates his belief that Ethernet FTTH is some years out (i.e. too far to quantify or predict), and page 10 shows an 802.3 combatibility chart, with ELM listed as POTS UTP. Page 11-12 further support a copper-centric view. Since he's the chairman, and has support on the copper view from others, it almost seemed like a done deal.
