Perhaps Davis was "reminding" Greenspan and Summers of the crisis that will ensue if PG&E and SoCal Edison default on their bond payments...If the state of Cali has to bail 'em out, it could collapse the entire muni bond market, insured by that ever-undercapitalized company known as MBIA.

That meeting is a LOT more worrisome than the media has picked up on, IMO.

i believe the meeting concerned a Fed guarantee to the banks lending money to the California utilities. probably the banks threatened to cut off the lending unless some guarantee came forth. just speculation on my part of course, but what else could it possibly have been about? or the governor possibly realized that he has to go to the REAL government (the Fed) if he wants help.

The Fed can certainly "bail out" whoever they want... twist a few bankers arms here and there. Industrial America with it's belly up to the Fed window???
