I am reading Maestro (the story of Greenspan). I am about half way through the book as I type this and I can honestly say that with every turn of the page I dislike the man more and more.

I cannot believe that we have the technology to send a man to the moon and a spacecraft and send back pictures of Mars but we cannot get a better system than the FOMC to regulate interest rates and monetary policy. My gawd there has to be a better way than this.
Here is what I get out of it so far.
The FED lives by this imaginary inflation number, no matter if there is actually inflation or not. So what is their remedy? Simple, crash the markets. That way you are guaranteed not to have inflation and when the market goes to far down simply pump money back into it so it can go back up. Not caring of the hundreds of thousands of lives they effect along the way.
HELLO!!!! I have a crazy idea. Let the market decide what is best for it. Lets try this way of doing it for 4 years. My bet is the market is much smarter than anyone at the FED and it knows what is best for it.

I shake my head at this whole idea of the FED. It is crazy and gives way to much power to one man. No man should have the power over a democratic society that Alan Greenspan has.
At the very least I think the Chairman should be like the President. He should not be allowed to serve more than two terms (8 years). This would solve a lot of the problems and would not allow one person to have this much power.

There must be a better way.
