The one bright spot has been flash memory, or chips that continue to hold onto data when power is turned off. Used in cell phones, cars and many other devices, these chips have been in short supply all year, and the segment is the fastest-growing part of the industry. Sales of flash memory, which is made by Intel, AMD and others, were forecast to more than double this year to $10 billion and rise 44% next year.>>
