I would suspect that a vast majority of the Southerners supported secession. That being the case, who plunged the Nation into war? The South did not consider their actions to be a rebellion, and legally, they were correct. Should states not have the power to leave the Union without a war breaking-out over it?

The North had morality on it's side (once Lincoln took the high road with the belated Emancipation Proclamation) in the slavery issue, but did it have it on its side when it invaded the South?
