yes. could not agree with you more. (of course, i would never *invest* any money in a restaurant - but that is just me.) the stock market, however, is about picking stocks that succeed; it is not about picking any company (as it has been for many over the past several years). companies that succeed will learn to do more with less; offer services products that previously did not exist and people cannot live without. these companies will succeed in the best of times or the worst of times - in the best of times they will do even better. it is true that the economy is inefficient and will go through growth and contraction phases. clearly, we have left a strong growth phase and are now entering (now in) a contraction. the question (of course) is whether the contraction will continue causing an actual *decrease* in growth or will the next cycle pick up before that actual contraction/decreates begins. right now, we are just slowing *growth*.

The compelling fundamental changes that took place over the past 5 years have not yet reached fruition; namely:
1. The Internet -
As a whole, having access to the Internet provides many
invaluable opportunites that people around the world
cannot afford to miss. There are whole nations that
don't yet have access.

2. Wireless communication
The wireless phone is the last stage of the pony express
and provides rapid communication around the world. The
number of people who have not yet spoken over any type
of phone is amazing.

The binge and purge cycle of business will keep these endeavors afloat. I would begin looking to another technology or investment category once cell phones and the Internet are as common as the TV. We have a long way before that happens.
