K, then that's a better explanation. But Christmas Eve? Sheesh, what rotten luck. And, in case you haven't experienced such a thing before, heed those instructions to: "Actively exercise all muscle groups not immobilized. These muscle contractions promote fracture alignment and hasten healing." You'll be surprised how fast the child's muscles atrophy with one of them "walking plaster cast below the child's knee" thingies. Especially if they immobilize your ankle. As a matter of fact, I'd suggest (from experience) that you query your doctor about an early visit to a physical therapist. They're all sadists, you know, but they can teach you exercises to do while you're still in the cast that will greatly minimize the damage & hasten your recovery.
