Yes, short sellers can be very persistent. But they are not immune from stupidity. They literally controlled RMBS in 1999, decimating it every time it reached 90 or so. By the time the year ended, the short position was enormous. In 2000, the shorts were annihilated. I have never in my life seen a short squeeze like Feb 2000.

But it was very frustrating to watch in 1999 when the shorts were in control. The key is to bide your time and have a long memory.
