It took a certain amount of courage to admit here that you went to a charismatic healing service, and even more to suggest that maybe it had some positive effects. Some on this board will pooh-pooh it, or worse.

I'm still waiting for them to explain how stem cells know what cells to grow into in the human body.

I used to believe in religion. Then for a while I believed in science and knew that religion was bunk, just a way to explain things we couldn't yet understand. Now I have progressed to believing in both, and recognizing the powers and limits of each.

There is mystery in the world. I see no reason to try to explain it, or diminish it by slapping a label on it. What you call magic I call the unknown- but it's the same difference.

It is sad when people exploit it, and it's equally sad when people allow themselves to be exploited. But humans are like that.

There are no guarantees. Look at the problems the Catholic church got in in the 16th century with the sale of indulgences. Protestants with their believe in the "priesthood of all believers" certainly should not send money to ministers to intervene for them. According to doctrine, Jesus is the only source of help and he helps out of grace. Of course, I find it impossible to believe any of these things. I can hardly sympathize with people who throw themselves on merely human religious institutions and don't work on their own behalf or use those human helping agencies. I would rather have a good physician, psychiatrist, or lawyer helping me than the most overpaid priest in the world.
