I guess it depends on how close you live to the volcano <g> An old saying I like " is no one is any more secure than their closest friend." -------------- About Statistics , An eminent historian once remarked that the crowning achievement of historical research is to attain an understanding of how things do not happen. To put it simply, history rarely offers up tidy events and clear motivations. -------------- I have to buy the above, even in the market as I look at how indexes are made over I know there isn't anyway to find the data to create an honest history. -------------- Short term for stocks it amounts to Liquidity, When the most Liquid of the stocks on a relative basis go down faster than the index they are in then RISK is high. When they are going up faster than the index they are in Risk is low. Even Inflation is hard to categorize across the board as there are always some who benefit from it while it hurts others.
