Wards to shutter stores
--1:17 pm - By Tim Rostan
CHICAGO (CBS.MW) -- Retailer Montgomery Ward is set to announce "sweeping" store closings Thursday, Crain's Chicago Business reported, citing sources it said were familiar with the situation. Montgomery Ward, based in Chicago, operates 252 department stores in 30 states. The Crain's report stated that one source indicated that Chief Executive Roger V. Goddu told his fellow executives late Wednesday that the entire chain would be closed. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 1997, but it emerged two years later, after General Electric's (GE: news, msgs) GE Capital purchased it.
