I can infer from meeting notes that, like "CDG"(CDMA Developer's Group), it is an "MRP" (whatever that is). >> "MWIF" is (so far as I know the acronym for The Mobile Wireless Internet Forum (a 3GPP MRP). The MWIF is an industry association whose mission is to drive the acceptance and adoption of a single mobile wireless and internet architecture that is independent of the access technology: mwif.org An MRP is a Market Representation Partner in 3GPP. The current Market Representation Partners of 3GPP are: * The GSM Association (GSMA) * The Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) * The UMTS Forum * The Universal Wireless Communications Consortium (UWCC) * The IPv6 Forum * The Mobile Wireless Internet Forum (MWIF) * 3G.IP Qualcomm would become a member due to its membership in CDG. The The current Organizational Partners (which by definition are recognized Standards Development Organizations) are: * Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB), Japan * China Wireless Telecommunication Standard (CWTS) * The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) * Committee T1, USA * The Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), Korea * The Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC), Japan. Presumably if CDG becomes an MRP then TIA would become an Organizational Partner. BTW: News for you from 3GPP (not new but I kinda missed it when it happenned). As you know 'Release 99' is the current 3GPP UMTS Standard (consisting of some 300 individual specifications). 'Release 2000' was in progress and would have completed UMTS Phase One standards. Release '00', which had aimed to define complete IP core 3G network specifications. Release ’00, has now been replaced by Release 4 and Release 5, due out in March 2001 and December 2001, respectively. Release 4 and Release 5 will introduce an optional IP-based core network. Supposedly this change won’t affect any operators on the short haul because nobody is going to be rolling out all-IP-based 3G for several years.R Supposedly 'R99' is "easily" upgradable to Release 4/5. - Eric -
