Mary, OT *** virus definition alerts
You can configure Norton AV to alert you when your AV definitions are outdated. I think it simply goes by elapsed time since the last update - 2 weeks [?]. I update at least weekly by simply opening the program and clicking on "Live update" while online. In my opinion an outdated virus program is almost as bad as no virus program at all.

Mary - Re:"That is the problem. I rarely, if ever get the updates."

You can schedule an automatic download of the new Norton Antivirus definitions. Norton updates its definition about once a week.

If you get the Norton System 2000 it includes Norton Antivirus and a batch of utilities that make it easy to schedule an auto download. Just follow the install instructions.

Like Paul said it catches something several times a year. Once makes it worth the money.

You are living dangerously.

I have found that almost any expense on software or hardware has been cheap compared to any downtime due to software corruptions or hardware malfunctions.
