Comet and meteorite impacts are going to kill millions or billions but get almost no press. People prefer to worry about absurdly small risk from cellphones. For an idea of the risk of your neighbourhood being flattened, try to find a place on this moon landscape which has not been rearranged at least once by a meteorite impact. antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov There are lots of VERY big impacts. The USA military is doing a great job defending against Libyans and the USA political system is keeping the USA safe from the competition from New Zealand sheep farmers. But they are both doing a rotten job of defending the USA against mindless rocks which will flatten the Pentagon much more certainly than terrestrial threats. Mqurice
