Mike,

I think this topic is appropriate for the SanDisk thread, as embedded and card flash memory will benefit from a cell handset upgrade cycle.

re: What's your crystal ball say?

Garbage in, garbage out. In other words, I haven't given it a whole lot of thought. My limited perspective is that I haven't yet seen a compelling product, with compelling features, to move the consumer's wallet out of his pocket. But investing in front of the next handset upgrade cycle could be huge, considering the base.

Is the Qualcomm thread the best SI thread to follow for discussion of handset trends?

John

JMD - Great to hear from you again. I use my wifes ThinPhone with PCS to access the web quite lot. It works fine for finacial info, news, weather etc.

It is very very useful and I get what I want out of it and in fact I find it quite fascinating to be doing this while travelling.

I would love to use a Palm VII but I think its too expensive forthe service at the moment.

And price for data is the thing. I don't believe that there is any doubt whatsoever that the market for the service is going to be a giant gorilla but the price is the thing.

No good at all if we all end up paying over say $150 a month for data access. I think that the price has got to get down to $100 per month or less for unlimited permanently on access to grow the customer base.

And in Europe too where people have much less disposable income the Euro SPs will have to disabuse themselves of any idea that tehy have found yet another way to earn too good a living by gouging their populations.

Best regards,

L
