Actually, I don't know that anyone is realizing massive capital gains this year. More likely, most folks are realizing losses for tax purposes. Then next year they're going to have to put that money back to work. This year, maybe a few daytraders made money, but probably most lost money. Then the LTBHs like myself, don't have losses nor gains, since we didn't sell, but have invested more money at the lows.

So the year end selling we are seeing now is most probably mutual funds doing their end of year window dressing and tax loss selling. I think January will see a rally due to more money coming back into the market from being sold in December for tax loss selling, and due to the impending lowering of rates by the Fed. Just my two cents.
