Running Palm OS on top of QNX

Hi Mang,

This is an interesting thought, and we have talked about running the Palm OS on EPOC over a year ago on the Wind River Thread, and we have also talked about how Linux could be ported on to a real time OS.

Even though 3Com has selected to use QNX, I would think that if Palm were to pick one RTOS, VxWorks would be the first one. Already, Palm has licensed VxWorks' TCP/IP stack from WindRiver. If Palm thought hard real time was necessary, it could further develop the relationship with WindRiver.

The major question is that does the Palm OS need to do real time? The answer is not a simple yes or no, and I have yet to understand all of the dynamics to draw a conclusion.

Regards,

Khan

P.S. Being POSIX compliant is not a big deal. Many RTOSes are.
