Carolyn: I try to bother no living creature (even spiders) and not be wasteful... LOL! So do I. But I'll have to admit to having had a childhood fascination regarding them and stones. I had the same fascination with wasps (yellow jacket) nests, too, although I quickly came to understand that wasps, being Natures little fighter air-craft, had rapid response retaliatory capabilities that sometimes exceeded my ability to run. *Ahem* I can remember being dunked by my Mother in more than one tub of ice water to reduce swelling. Did you know those babies can sting multiple times? Yeeeesh. Good thing I didn't suffer from any allergies...

Anyway, Sun Tzu....quite a read I recommend to everyone. Chinas answer, or antecedent, to Machivelli, me thinks. That 3 thousand (?) year old Chinese philosopher had some interesting perspectives. Indeed, Westerners could come to understand the Occidental perspective of long term manipulation of others by studying that tome (think current U.S. policy towards China and the fact that Clinton long ago was placed squarely in their pocket).

As for racial, religionist, and/or secular strifes and hatreds I will always contend it ultimately rests on a foundation of US vs the unknown THEM. So in that regard weaving the globe more closely together via our modern, global, telecommunications systems can't be a bad thing. Even though I'm sure it causes the rabidly ideological to froth with concern over their loss of control. It's becoming increasinly difficult for leaders to prevent peoples from communicating with each other. Of course....the leaders who understand this are going to the "next" level with the political jujitsu move of using the communication medium itself to maximize their interests. Which presents us with novel new areas of potential conflict in cyberspace.

And as for future wars....hmmm....resources will again be the root of it. Along with those irrational regional/religious hatreds. The Middle East is a clear flash point. So, too, are certain unsettled areas of Africa. And need I point to that certain lunatic region known collectively as the Afkanistan/Pakistan/India "dance" card? ;-)
