Alternative media is turning out reports that rather than going broke the electric companies made a fortune from deregulation and the profits are in shell companies that they sold the electricity to and then bought the electricity back from at gouge prices.

ru2-

About a year and a half ago I tried to research one of these companies. This was not a CA company, but one set-up in anticipation of dereg on the East Coast? (It's been a while ago.) An industry insider (I've since lost communication with) told me there was no company per se. He said many of these companies were a name, a largely empty office and a guy with a phone. In his opinion these companies would act more like brokers, "brokering-up" the price of electricity to the end user. To be honest, I didn't have enough backround in dereg issues to ask enough questions or truly comprehend what he was telling me. I'm starting to get it now.

If you've got a url for one of the alternative media articles or print reference please post.
