[Bruce, make sure your son doesnt read this post:]

However, since Santa does not visit children of Muslim, Hindu, Jewish or Buddhist (except maybe in Japan) religions, this reduces the workload for Christmas night to 15% of the total, or 378 million (according to the Population Reference Bureau).

Not to worry, he didn't read it. We're a mixed religion family and have no chimney. In addition, in Austria Santa Claus (Weihnactsmann) doesn't bring the gifts. So the kids are full of mixed messages due to their parents mixed upbringings as well as the cultural status of the country we live in and what they hear at school. Somehow, gifts arrived...

I took him on one of the street cars back in 1995 to the big Christmas market in the center of Vienna to see Santa Claus. On the way there, the street car stopped in front of a hot dog stand on a corner. There was a guy dressed in a Santa suit having a big beer and smoking a cigarette at the stand. My son looked out the window and let out with glee "Daddy, it's Santa Claus!" I guess if that vision didn't spoil his belief, then I should be happy 5 years later he still 'believes'.
