kumar,

<< I did some basic research on Gem+ & the PKI industry. IMO Gem+ doesn't (yet?) exhibit Gorilla or King like attributes >>

Prince.

Best smart card play on the street ... Pretty substantial company ... But a Prince.

<< primarily I believe the chasm has not been crossed (at least from a US centric view) >>

Forget PKI. Still deep in the Chasm.

Gemplus's key market is the SIM cards that power mobile telephones, for which it has a 41% global market share.

As for the Cham crossing (US) ... maybe close to bowling alley (AMEX & 3 US Visa smart card issuers). Won't know till we start seeing (multiple) apps on the cards and whether or not the Visa offerings are extended.

GEMP is VERY risky, IMO, after reading the prospectus, and this pertains to the fact that only about 75 million of their 610 million shares were offered at IPO. After the lock up, a lot of shares could hit the market at anytime causing significant dilution.

... also don't like the fact that historically 32% to 37% of their revenues occur final quarter ... and they may have difficulty managing their growth.

I have a VERY small position ... just for fun. It's my best performer YTD. <g>
