Wow! What a kick in the groin article for Q that is.
There are so many Q bombs in there I don't know where to begin.
They could have saved alot of print and just summed it up by just saying IJ is full of SH** and Q investors have been led down the merry path. I don't believe for one second what this Woo person is saying that every manufacturer is claiming they are not paying Q for UMTS royalties. He actually came out and said that it is a false statement by Q. That is a hell of a statement when you think of all the companies that just upgraded their license agreements with Q that have clearly stated in black and white that the license includes Wcdma.

The one annoying thing in the back of my mind is if CDMA2000 is so superior and so much more cost effective, why is it everyone is avoiding it like the plague with a few exceptions such as KDDI, Verizon and Sprint.

And now we have Cingular spitting anti CDMA venom and also debunking the advantage of 1X in existing spectrum by calling that theory alot of Qualcomm Hype.

Well It's Cingular and ATT down, Nextel to kick us next.

>>"All of the manufacturers I have talked to that are licensing the CDMA are telling us that it is absolutely false that they are paying royalties to Qualcomm for UMTS," Woo said.<<

I agree. None of them are currently paying royalties to QCOM. QCOM has announced WCDMA contracts with almost every major player. They will pay royalties when legally required to do so..... per their signed contract with QCOM....

However..... Worded as Mr. Woo is quoted, it sounds like a careful spin to cast doubt on QCOM's essential IPR position in regards to WCDMA. It makes for a nice angle to play in the FUD arena. AT&T is like the GSM cabal. They want to give the perception that they have the best overall system for 3G & they are in control of the future of 3G. Obfuscating the IPR issue raised doubts about QCOM's IPR & their role in the dominate 3G system.

BWDIK?

Hopefully QCOM's IR will comment on the whole article soon.

Ö¿Ö

At the same time, CDMA is popping up in European markets as operators look to differentiate, which brings about competing forces.

The most interesting comment in the article. Sounds like Qualcomm is making some headway in Europe.
