he's looking only at the so-called monetary base, which includes vault cash. the vault cash that has been printed for a possible y2k emergency has been withdrawn, thus the monetary base has shrunk. this has ZERO influence on economic activity. otherwise, the expansion in money supply has been as crazy as ever. in other words, he's an AZW who doesn't even understand the subject properly.

note: the big contraction in money supply will occur once the depression is in full swing, and the Fed is pushing on a string.
