I don't think the last mile bandwidth is the bottleneck. At work, no one has video applications, companies lease T1 line mainly for large emails or ftp or search web. At home, I just need to telnet to work occasionally, surf the web a little bit. I think video belongs to TV land and most TV programs are waste of my time.

The bottomline for last mile snail speed is: too time consuming to install high-speed gadget. There's got be a way to use DSL/cable modem as easy as 56k or plug-n-play ethernet.
