John --

Monday's IBD has a short article listing 2001 predictions.

Research Firm's Crystal Ball Emits Rosy Glow For Tech

Forget the tech wreck. Despite slower spending, the collapse of many dot-coms and the plunge in tech stocks, the tech economy will boom in 2001, says International Data Corp.

The research firm says worldwide information technology spending will pass $1 trillion in 2001 and Internet commerce will top $500 billion.

IDC's top 10 predictions for 2001, based on a poll of the firm's analysts, are:

1. Internet stocks won't stage a comeback.

2. The Internet stock crash won't affect investment in e-business.

3. B2E (business-to-employee) will become a hot market sector.

4. Hype around mobile commerce and Internet connectivity will reach hysteria levels.

5. ASPs (application service providers) will disappear.

6. There will be a massive consolidation of e-marketplaces.

7. Small business will emerge as a hot market sector.

8. Linux deployments will remain a wild card.

9. "Web Talk" services will signal a major inflection point for the telecom industry.

10. P2P (peer-to-peer) will become a buzz-word, but will get a cool corporate reception.
