Sam, of course there is myopia among Republicans, but no more than the myopia among Democrats. You raise a good point that I left out the technology explanation, probably because I don't buy it at all. My personal opinion is that Dent is right, and that it is all Demographics. I had that opinion long before I heard of Dent, though his theories are much, much more well developed than mine were, and helped me to solidify and explain my opinions (I was trying to reach the same conclusions from the savings side of Demographics rather than from the spending side). I think that we shall indeed see his prolonged depression begin, and sooner than his projection, though not for at least another 5-6 years. I think that politics actually plays surprisingly little role. If I didn't believe that I'd be very worried right now about the massive costs about to be imposed on the economy in the new Ergonomic measures being imposed by OSHA.

I'm sure that Democrats believe that Gore should have won. I'm just grateful that they aren't openly rioting or refusing to allow Bush to be sworn in. I have no doubt that the various recounts now taking place will serve to muddy the water further, and may well open old wounds, so there may well be more problems ahead.
