Frank,

There is yet another reason Q's value chain won't be as strong if it takes a long time to form. We now live in an age in which customers like to cage the gorillas. That's because they don't want to be ruled, controlled, and tossed around the way Microsoft did and does with the desktop value chain. The longer it takes for Q's value chain to get really strong, the easier it is for customers to cage the gorilla.
