No Free Handouts for Palm, Research In Motion

"Palm has tremendous market advantages, both in its operating system and brand name, said Jason Tsai, analyst and vice president at CE Unterberg Towbin. "OS access has the potential to drive Palm's margins up," Tsai said. "It's the jewel in Palm's crown." Palm's operating system has the potential to be installed in a significant portion of the projected 1 billion-handset market, which could turn Palm into "the Microsoft of the handset sector," Tsai said."

Re:I was going to let the "Audrey runs the Palm OS debate" to rest"

lkj, there is no need to stop discussing Audrey's OS here because I think it's very on topic since Palm OS is very important to the future of Palm.

I have searched the coms website and couldn't find anything more detail about the Audrey's OS. In fact, there is not even one news release of Audrey on the coms website !

coms seems to be keeping a very low profile on the Audrey line of products.

There is no reason to believe that Palm cannot do the following:

<Memory management, process management, file management, and divers. >

In fact, Palm OS can do all the above. Without memory management, how do you think Palm can access its 2 to 8 MB of memory. How do Palm OS addresses the hugh size of memory stick and SD ? Without file management, how do Palm runs some of those mini-databaes on the Palm handhelds ? Without drivers, how does it run the firepad video or the Kodak PalmPix ?

With modification, Palm OS should be able to address a larger screen. Just like Wince can address all kind of screen sizes.

The Audrey browser and Channels are most likely not Palm based. It could just be a custom made browser. The address book and to do list most likely are Palm based so as hotsync can be done smoothly.
