I do not find secrecy in military operations necessarily disreputable. From my perspective, we should not have escalated our troop presence in Vietnam to begin with. The villain in the piece, if there is one, is Lyndon Johnson, for lying to Congress in order to pass the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, and thereby gain a too free hand. We were not in a position to annex Vietnam. If the South Vietnamese could not hold the country, we could not do it for them.......
