Harry, Re: Another way to look at it is to buy at the low PE, which has averaged 17 over the last five years. If $1.50 is next year's consensus, that puts an entry price at $26

Does this 1.50 include 'investment gain' ? I don't like Intel's approach of convincing the market to take these gains as ordinary income which makes it a bit more difficult to find the EPS sans investment.

Re: "The secret to owning Intel is to BUY when everyone else is selling"

My exact reasoning at $62 <G>

Re: "Some value investors wait until the stocks drops 50% from its high before investing and Intel fits the bill right now. Another way to look at it is to buy at the low PE, which has averaged 17 over the last five years. If $1.50 is next year's consensus, that puts an entry price at $26. I have used this strategy in the past and it has worked quite well"

According to the book I mentioned, Buffett sometimes writes puts to get his price. Writing Jan $27.5s would just about bring you into range.

Re: "Thanx for the name of the book. If you're interested in other books about Buffett's investment style, let me know, there are a couple I could suggest."

Yes please. Best to post it here because others have PM'd me asking for the book title so I know others are interested as well.

Harry,OT, Re:"books about Buffett's investment style"

When we last corresponded on this thread in early 2000, you were considering purchasing some BRK. I recall your reluctance due to questions about BRK's insurance business. Did you ever get comfortable enough with the insurance business and "float" to pick some BRK up?

I am glad that I did. Bought some B shares in late 98 and early 99 as prices continued to drop. When Buffett essentially said "BUY,BUY,BUY!" in his annual letter, I couldn't resist picking up more.

As a novice BRK shareholder my understanding of Buffet and his amazing company continues to grow. The wonders of "free" float combined with Buffett's brilliance in capital allocation continue to make for a financially and intellectually rewarding experience.

All the best and Happy New Year.

Jacques

P.S.-Janet Lowe's new bio on Charlie Munger -"Damn Right!"- was an interesting read. I'd recommend reading it if you haven't already.
