I don't know where the Line man is coming from,

but in continental Europe the big telco's just experience hangover phase after they threw out billions for still worthless UMTS licenses and await shareholder scrutiny.

Bankers raise eyebrows when they see what is at stake with their hastily bought in telecom debt. ... and german telecom companies still cry foul over the pricey UMTS auction.

Sure is wireless a compelling technology but me thinks that Europe is clearly in favor of cable in metropolitan areas while DSL is still competitive (for a while) outside the capitals and in smaller cities where the economics of scale are againse expensive cable and quite in favor of cheap copper.

Wireless (to be exact high speed wireless technology) is then dead as dead fish if it is as expensive as current transfers using GSM which would be clearly not competitive even when compared to dedicated cable lines.

As mentioned, the reduced UMTS revenue hopes are already being reflected as bankers hastily downgraded all their new telco debt...
