There is nothing contradictory between what I have argued and Neocon's position that Vietnam was both unsustainable and a regrettable loss of American lives.

My argument is from a geopolitical standpoint. In the wider contest between the US and the USSR, Vietnam was both logical and necessary.

From a pure national interest standpoint, and from a moral standpoint, Vietnam was a mistake and a wasteful loss of human life. I do not believe Vietnam was a sustainable, or winnable, war. I do not believe Vietnam was worthy of the loss of American blood. But, it was necessary in light of maintaining confidence in American resolve to defend its allies and go the distance in resisting Soviet and Chinese sponsored aggression.

If you doubt my assertions, then you also must argue that the Doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction is a figment of my imagination, as the two are part and parcel of the policy. Sacrificing New York to save Paris.
