I just finished reading Colin Powell's biography today, he would be a great president, possessing all the goods needed but one, a huge ego. I can not recommend a book more than his, some great lessons from a great man, $1,000,000 worth of wisdom for $20. Here's the link on amazon fyi...

As for 2001, for me it's just business as usual. I do like the "baby with the bathwater" theme of investing figuring several stocks took it on the chin in Nov and Dec for no other reason than tax loss selling. Here are some I like, mainly cuz I liked them at 2-5 times current prices:cwld, voxx, lor, inph, sang, rcnc, atrx and aeth. I already own voxx, cwld and sang. cwld has a great product, on the other hand they may not be able to overcome the slowdown in IT spending, I see Germany's biggest internet software maker just posted a bigger than expected loss due to not meeting sales expectations as several orders were postponed.

I'm also considering shorting some high fliers like brcd, jnpr and sebl figuring they could likely suffer the same fate as '99's big winners did in 2000 and will suffer from a slowdown like everyone else. this year i'm going to pay more attention to fundamentals, it's tempting to think we've missed out on that move, but markets tend to go further than anyone anticipates in both directions. the beginning of this year could be the beginning of last year in reverse with old economy stocks soaring and high fliers tumbling. just speculation, i have no idea of course.
