My apology, I am quite English challenge, more so than our resident farmer <VBG>! Carl, you got to stop reading too much into people's comment. Otherwise, you will construct a mental fence against meaningful exchange. Where did I say I did not like President Ford? Otherwise, his administration was not exactly a stand out. Please, don't take it personal. There were many reasons for the failure --- which led to President Carter situation. Would it be suffice to say that President Ford did not have enough time to "whip inflation?" The thing is that VP-elected Cheney, being part of the WIN major player, was the one who tried to attack the Clinton/Gore economic achievements. FWIW, I think the previous Fed Chmn, Mr Volcker, despite of his tough approach to inflation towards the end of the Carter era, that allowed President Reagan's initial success. With regard to President-elected Bush team. Stop playing with people's lives by talking down the expectation game. It is ok to do it in debate, not so in real life. A lot of companies do take govt outlook to do their strategic planning. If they feel the govt said the economy was going to hell in a hand basket, they may preempt the situation by cutting spending. It will have a synergistic effect on the economy. At this stage, if the new administration is true to its mission of unity and further improvement, calming people's nerve is imperative. Instead, we ve a bunch of economic lightweights shouting the end of the world is near and a defense secretary candidate still trying to fight yesteryear war with missile defense etc. If I were a company's strategist, I would comtemplate a possibility of hawhisk defense spending might trigger a Reagan era type of deficit. If this *doomsday* scenario pans out, I am doubtful there will be 75 to 100 basis points cut in the Fed rates b/c Chmn Greenspan is unlikely to endorse such a deficit driven programme. best, Bosco
