I think that we will see at least one more quarter of lowered earnings estimates and signs of softening but the economy will come roaring back in the second half.

What I find interesting is that while many companies are fully computerized, allowing them to stop production almost literally on a dime in order to prevent more inventory buildup, they have not, so far, laid off a lot of people. This week's unemployment report should be revealing, indicating whether that position has changed or not.

I think if companies continue to take a more cautious approach...curbing production without significant layoffs....the landing may still be reasonably soft.

The other thing that grinds me is that everyone assumes that most people were living off their Naz gains and now will be homeless without them. If my friends are typical, their stock profits were considered a kind of savings and used mostly for emergencies or maybe a vacation trip.

If that is true for most people, I think all those Naz losses will be mostly on paper and will have a much lesser impact on the economy than some are saying.
