Eric, Probably the primary condition of the merger between AIT and SBC was an accelerated schedule of providing local phone service in 30 cities outside of the newly merged company's territory. Acquiring BLS would fly directly in the face of this condition. In particular, Miami was one of the three initial cities to deploy out-region local service.
IMO, SBC/BLS merger has no chance.

Also, SBC controls Cingular. Any BLS aspirations for CDMA, which I believe are many, will not take place through Cingular.
